As an osteopath, I find patients divide into those who
a)love exercise, cannot stop
b)see exercise as a necessary chore , but make it part of their MUST do routine
c) those who would rather lie down with a coffee and chocolate cake
Never mind where they are, it is mostly a simple mindset:
moving from Pain towards Pleasure
Factors to conside
Time to do the exercise
Enjoyment of the exercise itself
Effectiveness of the exercise
So, when choosing something, consider if you need it for a short time, or want to make it part of your routine.
Does it involve others? Is it competitive? Sports, gyms cover this. Dance, can also have a more social side.
One key thing, is often fitting it into the daily routine.
Can you do it first thing?
Cycling to work, is one of my favourite pieces of advice:
time neutral: Uses up commuting time, and replaces it with cycling/exercise
Other programmes, have to be effective or social - e.g. dance near you; tennis or social sports
I have also found an interesting home video course, run by 2 ex-military trainers
